On a wonderful spring evening in the heart of The City at St Lawrence Jewry, The Esterhazy Singers explored the lyrical and sumptuous sound world of French choral writing in the last century. The repertoire was built the sublime ‘Requiem’ by Maurice Duruflé, Messiaen’s ‘O Sacrum Convivium’, Poulenc ‘Un Soir de Neige’ and included contrasting earlier pieces by Saint-Saens and Fauré. The concert offered a unique insight into French composition and its development through the war years. Led by their new Musical Director, Andrea Brown, with the internationally renowned organist, Catherine Ennis and professional soloists, this Esterhazy Singers performance was not to be missed.
