The Esterhazy Singers, performed Joseph Haydn’s sublime Missa Cellensis in the beautiful surroundings of St Lawrence Jewry on Tuesday 27 October 2015. Written for the famous pilgrimage church or Mariazell in Styria, this festive mass has always been one of Haydn’s most popular works. The Esterhazy Singers, accompanied by Catherine Ennis (organ) performed the mass alongside German motets by Bach, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms and others, in a programme that also included choral masterpieces such as Rheinberger’s Abendlied and Bruckner’s Christus factus est.
